Sports Club

The Sports Club was formed to cater to various indoor and outdoor activities that involve physical activity and focus. The Club serves as a source of recreation for the students by attempting to break the routine of classroom lectures and encouraging physical activity. It imparts and disciplines the students to maintain health and fitness, enhances team-building skills and improves cognitive function of the brain.

At St Anne’s First Grade College for Women, we push our students to participate in various indoor and outdoor sports. We provide the students an opportunity to excel in sports by providing them excellent coaching which by and large has brought the college various accolades and prizes. The college team takes part in various inter-collegiate competitions. It also conducts many intra-collegiate events to encourage students from various classes to participate and showcase their skills and talents. It also caters to an ideal ambience for any student who wishes to pursue their sportsman skills along with academics. In order to make sure our students are fit physically and emotionally, the college installed the gym facility where students can keep in check with their physical health by utilizing the various equipment provided. The sports committee is committed to promote healthy and balanced lifestyles changes in the present sedentary environment.

Electoral Literacy Club

TElectoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) are platforms designed to engage students with engaging activities and hands-on experiences, educating them about their electoral rights and the processes of voter registration and voting. These clubs are also active in colleges and rural communities.

ELCs offer activities, seminars, and awareness programs to inspire and motivate students, encouraging them to think critically and ask questions. The Election Commission of India uses ELCs to foster a culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.

Abinaya - The Drama Club

The Drama club “ABINAYA" was officially constituted in the year 2017. The language departments launched the drama club which was hither to apart of the department activities as a need was felt to give special emphasis to drama. The club held the best opportunities for the students to showcase their theatrical talent. The club representatives comprises of the language department faculty, the club secretaries and students. The members of the club voluntarily took up every opportunity that came their way without detraction in spreading issues pertinent to awareness on social issues, syllabus related drama, role play and street play.

The club members have invariably worked as an ensemble for better communicative design concept. Writing plays based on current issues, analyzing the play, from performance perspective including dramatic structure, characterization, and language investigation and integrating it within the rehearsal and performance process have been their priority. The club members have applied stage management skills which help them to understand and enhance personal organisation, leadership and responsibility in a production. The club members collaborate with other cells and committees in bringing out the potential through their skills and zeal in working towards the welfare of society.

Eco Club - Green Warriors

St Anne’s First Grade College for Women focuses on engendering a culture of conservation into the minds of students. As an outcome of this thought process, the college instituted the Eco-club known as ‘ANNITES: THE GREEN WARRIORS’.The club plays an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the students and performs activities to conserve and protect the environment, like planting trees, organizing poster competitions, initiating waste management techniques on campus, creating awareness on practices that have harmful effects on our environment. The Club promotes the participation of students in activities that promote environmental protection and conservation and thereby aiding to sustainable development.

Objectives

  • To mobilize students towards scientific enquiry into environmental issues.
  • To sensitise students to make efforts to preserve the environment.
  • To create awareness about environmental issues.
The activities included to achieve the objectives
  • Motivate students to undertake plantation of saplings.
  • Promote ethos of conservation of water by minimizing the use of water.
  • Motivate students to imbibe habits and life style about waste segregation and management.
  • Educate students to create awareness amongst public and sanitary workers, so as to stop the indiscriminate burning of waste which causes respiratory diseases.
  • Sensitize the students to minimize the use of plastic bags.
  • Organize saplings plantation programmes, awareness programmes such as Quiz, essay, painting competitions, rallies, etc. regarding various environmental issues and educate children about recycling of waste material.
  • Organize Nature Trail in Wild Life Sanctuaries/Parks/Forest areas to make students aware about the Bio-diversity.

Green Warrior club can thus help to extend boundaries and scope of the formal educational system encouraging creativity, and improving students for constructive action in order to protect the environment. It helps build attitudes to help individuals and social groups acquire a set of values and feelings of concern for environment and the motivation for actively participating in environmental improvement and protection. It also teaches skills to help individuals and social groups to identify and solve environmental problems and offer solutions to protect and conserve our nature and environment in the best way possible.

Student Council

The Students’ Union of St. Anne’s First Grade College for Women is a Student Organization representing the student community of the college. It comprises of the Club Presidents and Class Prefects who together become representatives of the student body. They support the academic, social and organizational activities conducted within the institution and participate in various other intercollegiate events.

The students invariably involve themselves in the Union by becoming an elected officer or sometimes on the eligibility of selection through their consistent leadership qualities that are recognized by the College.

The Union along with the Club Presidents and Class Prefects receive their official posts through the Investiture ceremony.

In collaboration with the staff coordinators and IQAC, the leaders, perform their tasks by organizing various activities like TALENTIA (interclass cultural fest), EPOCH (intercollegiate cultural fest), ARTYFACT (intercollegiate humanities and science fest), COMARENA (intercollegiate commerce fest), Department Fests, Interclass and Intercollegiate Sports Activities and various other community integration activities.

The leaders responsibly execute their given tasks with commitment and determination and ensure smooth functioning of the various programs and activities of the college.

Roles and Responsibilities of Student Council
  • Union Coordinators discuss the procedure to be followed for forming the Student Union through Election/Selection in consultation with the IQAC.
  • Union Coordinators send circular to students to file nominations for available posts to contest for the Union Election.
  • Students desiring to contest the Election file their nominations in the stipulated time.
  • Last date for withdrawal of nomination is announced & the final list of students contesting in the Election is made.
  • Union Coordinators & IQAC Coordinators meet to scrutinize the names of contesting candidates for the election & list of Eligible contestants are announced.
  • The dates, time & Venue for Campaigning is decided and arrangements are made.
  • Election date, time & Venue are decided and arrangements are made.
  • Counting of votes is done and the names of the Victorious Union Members are announced.
